Nearly 7,000 Oregonians (PDF) die from tobacco-related conditions every year. As we head into the New Year, consider quitting for your health, and for your loved ones.
While quitting smoking is tremendously difficult, the reward will be great. By quitting smoking in 2016, you can reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke and a number of other chronic diseases that contribute to decreased quality of life and even death.
Kicking the habit doesn’t just lower your risk for disease, it also improves breathing, smell and taste, so you can enjoy the things you love again, whether it’s a nice meal at one of Portland’s top restaurants or trekking to the top of Multnomah Falls.
A combination of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), such as gum and patches, and having a social support system in place, can help you or a loved one quit this year.
Talk with an Adventist Health physician or medical care provider about NRT and other resources that are available to help you quit tobacco. Smoke Free Support Group
Meet with others for support in becoming and remaining smoke-free. Join our support group every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. on the campus of Adventist Medical Center. This group is free.
